Report: Browns, Rams, 49ers interested in Terrelle Pryor

Terrelle Pryor struggled to find consistent ing time last year with the Washington Redskins, but that hasn’t appeared to stop him from garnering decent interest on the free agent market.

According to Mike Silver of the NFL Network, Pryor is getting interest from the Los Angeles Rams, San Francisco 49ers and, his former team, the Cleveland Browns.

Frederick was scheduled to count $13,235,000 against the cap in 2018, per OverTheCap.com. If Dallas converted the maximum amount of base salary possible to signing bonus it would allow the team to save $7,368,000 against the cap for this season. 49ers_021

The Giants are moving cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie to safety. If they don’t move him off the roster first.

Richard Sherman defends his self-negotiated contract

As the dust settles on the contract that agent Richard Sherman negotiated with the 49ers for his only client, cornerback Richard Sherman, the agent is defending the work that he did. As expected.

Consider this claim from Sherman: Once I make a Pro Bowl, $8 million the next year is guaranteed for me. That’s not technically true.

If Sherman makes the Pro Bowl in 2018, an $8 million injury guarantee vests for him on the third day of the 2019 league year. Which means that the 49ers can cut him before that day in the middle of March with no financial consequence even if he’s injured. (The 49ers would be on the hook for up to $1.2 million, if Sherman can’t play in 2019 due to a 2018 injury, but that’s a protection baked in to the CBA.)

Injury guarantees that vest at a later date are very rare, at best. McDonald has finished with five or more sacks in three of the last five seasons, so his value to the Broncos is clearly with generating an interior pass rush on opposing quarterbacks. This has been an ongoing problem for the Broncos since Malik Jackson’s departure in 2016.

Each of those moves are like dominoes, great big, hard-hitting dominoes, that will have ripple effects on how the free agent market and the draft unfold this year.

Washington had three choices with Kirk Cousins this year: tag him for a third season, let him walk, or lock him up with a long-term deal. As predicted, they let him walk. But instead of bungling their QB situation any further, they opted to make a trade for Smith.

Of those 108, Wilson is 101st in targets per routes run, 94th in receptions per routes run, and 98th in receiving yards per route run.

After the quarterback landscape began to take shape on Tuesday with three ex-Vikings quarterbacks finding jobs elsewhere in Case Keenum and Denver, Sam Bradford and Arizona, and Teddy Bridgewater and the New York Jets, Cousins and McCartney decided against any other visits.

“We had intentions to potentially consider a second visit and, as I said, on that Tuesday, it was a mad scramble for every team to fill that quarterback slot,” McCartney said.

New England was 30th in the league against the run, and while Branch had been impressive in previous seasons, he had fallen so far out of favor that the Pats scratched him for Super Bowl LII in favor of keeping Malcolm Butler inexplicably active.

New England will probably decline Shelton’s fifth-year option, given that run-stuffing defensive linemen just aren’t making eight-figure salaries often in free agency; but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Pats offer Shelton a contract extension if he starts his career in Foxborough well.

The return isn’t much for the Browns.

Cleveland sends a fifth-round pick in this year’s draft to the Patriots, although it’s unclear whether it’ll be the pick the Browns acquired from the Packers on Frida y or the fifth-rounder the Browns picked up from the Chiefs for another former first-round pick, Cam Erving.

In return, Cleveland will get a 2019 third-rounder, but given the Patriots’ nearly unprecedented run of success, it seems extremely likely that pick will fall into the 90s next year. patriots_005

The Colts’ Donte Moncrief is intriguing, especially because he can be had on the cheaper side after a down season. Because of Beckham and Shapard, and the fact that the Giants will need to invest heavily to lock up the former soon, this will be more of a flyer position in free agency.

Orleans Darkwa and Shane Vereen are free agents, leaving Wayne Gallman and Paul Perkins as the team’s top two backs. The Giants are looking for a workhorse and are a strong bet to take Penn State’s Saquon Barkley at No. 2.

But it doesn’t hurt for the team to think about adding a complementary pass-catching back, in essence to replace Vereen. The top free-agency option in that vein is the Vikings’ Jerick McKinnon, who starred for Shurmur last season, but he is a long shot. Antonio Gates will probably draw the headlines, but safety Tre Boston is the free agent the Chargers will have to really open up the pocketbooks for to keep in L.A. The franchise tag would be overkill to make sure he stays, though. An extension shouldn’t be that difficult or as expensive as the tag.

How was Shazier injured? Shazier went to the ground clutching his back after tackling Bengals wide receiver Josh Malone on Cincinnati’s first possession of the game. It looked like a normal, everyday kind of tackle until Shazier didn’t get up.

Shazier was immobilized on a backboard, carted off the field, and taken directly to a Cincinnati hospital. He was transported back to Pittsburgh and underwent spinal stabilization surgery. The Steelers placed him on injured reserve.

Last year, just seven players received the tag: Chandler Jones, Kawann Short, Melvin Ingram, Trumaine Johnson, Jason Pierre-Paul, Le’Veon Bell, and Kirk Cousins. This year, there were six: J.J.
