NBA Draft rumors: Latest news on Luke Kennard, OG Anunoby, Frank Jackson

Former Duke guard Frank Jackson made a strong impression at the NBA Draft Combine last month, with a 42-inch vertical and a nice performance in the one scrimmage (13 points and four assists) in which he played. His vertical was second-highest at the combine, and he also was tops in completing the shuttle run.

Portland owns the No. 15, 20 and 26 picks in this draft, and several teams are eager to get into that mix. The Knicks have inquired about some combination of the Blazers’ picks, a source said, and those talks are ongoing. New York has the eighth pick and could trade down for a combination of picks, though the preference for the Knicks is to keep their pick and add one of Portland’s.

The Nets have inquired, too, and that could be interesting because of the Nets’ ability to absorb salary. Brooklyn stands to have about $40 million in cap space next summer, and without much to offer big-time free agents, leveraging that space to accumulate picks with bad contracts would make sense for the Nets, who will see the No. 1 pick swapped to Boston this year, and have next year’s pick sent to the Celtics, too.

Elite Mens Emmanuel Sanders Jersey For the time being, Portland wants to dump a salary in a deal for a pick. If they could dump the contract of the maddeningly frustrating Leonard, who is owed $31 million over the next three years and could get the Blazers close to slipping under the tax number, one of their picks could be had.

Elite Mens Alan Page Jersey Not that simple, though. Crabbe might be the most inviting trade target, especially for the Nets. They offered him the four-year, $75 million deal he originally signed as a restricted free agent last July before the Blazers matched the terms. Problem is, Crabbe comes with a 15-percent trade kicker, and though the Blazers still like his potential, no team around the league likes him enough to tack on another $11.25 million via trade kicker for him.

the Packers young corners could struggle against the Falcons.

The Packers secondary is nowhere near as good as Seattles, even without injured safety Earl Thomas. The Packers have also been hit hard by injury with injuries to top corners Sam Shields and Damarious Randall. Second-year corner Quinten Rollins has also missed time and sat out the 34-31 playoff win over the Cowboys because of a concussion.

The injuries continued last Sunday as safety Morgan Burnett left the win over the Cowboys with a quad injury.

Without Burnett able to provide help over the top, the Packers young corners could struggle against the Falcons. Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant torched the Packers, especially Gunter, with nine catches for 132 yards and two touchdowns.

His first score was a 40-yarder and he simply beat Gunter off the line and Dak Prescott hit Bryant in stride on the fly route.

The Padres took North Carolina high school pitcher MacKenzie Gore with the third pick. Gore, who had committed to East Carolina, led Whiteville High School to three state championships and went 11-0 with a 0.19 ERA and 158 strikeouts and only five walks in 74 1/3 innings as a senior.

Also an option at No. 1 was California high schooler Hunter Greene, who boasts a 102-mph fastball and played shortstop for Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks. The 6-3, 195-pound Greene, who was at the draft in Secaucus, N.J., went second overall to the Reds. Greene, who is still just 17 years old, was announced as a pitcher.

I’ve been blessed to be in a position like this, Greene told MLB Network. It’s amazing to be a part of this. It’s been my dream since I was 7. This is just a once-in-a-lifetime experience. vikings_125

Earl ‘The Pearl’ Monroe says Phil Jackson didn’t put Melo in position to succeed

It’s rare that players from the 1973 New York Knicks NBA championship team criticize each other, but the state of Phil Jackson’s modern-day Knicks prompted one player to speak out.

Earl The Pearl Monroe told the New York Post Thursday that Jackson never put Carmelo Anthony in a position to succeed.

There was no chemistry, not even in the locker room. And Melo, he has done what he was brought here to do, Monroe told the Post. Phil needed to put people around him that do what he doesn’t do. That’s up to management. Melo played up to his strengths and he played up to his weaknesses. He’s always been that player. You need to augment him with the right other pieces.

Now, it’s impossible to compare these teams because they played in different eras. But to have no doubt the Showtime Lakers would not only beat the Warriors, but sweep them is kind of ridiculous. Draymond Green thought so too as all he could do was laugh at Johnson when he was asked about what he said at Tuesday’s practice.

While Green didn’t want to respond to the question at the time, he did elaborate on why in broader terms later. Essentially, he thinks it’s dumb to argue about teams from different eras of basketball.

First off, the game is completely different than it was back then. Nowadays if you can’t shoot a 3 youre a liability on the floor. That wasn’t the case back then. It doesn’t make sense to me because you’re talking two different games. I’ve never understood it, nor do I get off into it. They were great in their time, we’re great in our time.

LeBron James says he emulated Michael Jordan — right down to hairline

Game Byron Maxwell Jersey This team has a set rotation going into next season with many returning under-contract players. So it makes sense to go with a best player available approach, and Ferguson is an interesting 3-and-D type for a team that could use someone who can grow into knocking down shots and playing solid perimeter defense with low-usage offense next to Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum.

Game Ryan Shazier Jersey For the love of god, we need to give Russell Westbrook some shooting. Ojeleye was statistically one of the best shooters in college basketball last season, and at 6-7, 241 pounds, he should be able to defend both 3s and 4s at a high level in the NBA. This would be a small reach, but the last thing the Thunder need is more bigs to clog the paint around Westbrook.

The LeBron James-Michael Jordan comparisons got really interesting on Thursday.

James, asked about his surpassing Jordan in postseason scoring, said he emulated His Royal Airness. And, whether he wants to or not, James is starting to see similarities between his and Jordan’s haircut.

As a reminder, here’s what James and Jordan look like in their respective heydays: One of the few teams in the NBA that still chases offensive rebounds with aplomb, the Bulls would be a great landing spot for Collins. He was historically productive for his age this season despite his sophomore status, and could be productive early with his ability to get at the glass, make shots and wreak havoc with his motor.

The Bucks value positional size and length, but the team also really needs instant offense off the bench for when Giannis Antetokounmpo sits. Evans, with his elite ability to create separation and his skill in the pick-and-roll, could thrive around a team littered with athleticism and shooting.

Steelers can’t let Le’Veon Bell’s historic run go to Super waste

Raiders fans have to be torn by this news. In general, they seem to bounce between rage that they’re being abandoned for the second time and are being asked to keep supporting them until the team is ready to leave town and love for the team they’ve identified with through thick and thin and that previous abandonment, when they kept driving and flying to the L.A. Coliseum to keep the ties alive.

Le’Veon Bell has been terrific for the Steelers in the 2016-17 playoffs. It would be terrible, then, for Pittsburgh to throw in the towel before getting to the Super Bowl with him.

In only two games the wild-card win over Miami and the divisional upset of Kansas City Pittsburgh’s feature back has rushed for a combined 337 yards. That already ranks him 12th all-time for a single NFL postseason, before at least one more game against New England in the AFC championship.

Cracking the top five is in Bell’s reach, but already appearing that high on the list means one thing: Anything less than advancing to Super Bowl LI would be an all-time fail by the Steelers.

According to Pro Football Reference, only three of the top 32 running backs in one-playoff rushing yards didn’t get to play in that round. Digger deeper, 14 of those clutch performers carried their team all the way to a ring. The no-Super-Bowl exceptions were a couple of Jets (Freeman McNeil in ’82, Shonn Greene in ’09) and a Jaguar (Natrone Means in ’96).

Sure, volume and opportunity played a big part in those rushing totals, but the most dominant backs, such as John Riggins, Terrell Davis (twice) and Marcus Allen, couldn’t be denied the Lombardi Trophy.

Tom Brady details relationship with Donald Trump: ‘It’s just a friendship’

Tom Brady does not understand why his friendship with Donald Trump matters. And though the Patriots passer prefers to keep his personal relationships closer to the private side, the 45th president of the Unites States doesn’t do Brady any favors when he name-drops the QB in public.

Brady on Monday was interviewed by WEEI in Boston hours after he and the Patriots beat the Steelers in the AFC championship to advance to Super Bowl LI against the Falcons. He was asked again about the congratulatory phone call Trump said Brady made before the president’s inauguration last week.

I have called him, yes, in the past, Brady said. Sometimes he calls me. Sometimes I call. But, again, that’s been someone I’ve known. I always try to keep it in context because for 16 years you know someone before maybe he was in the position that he was in. He’s been very supportive of me for a long time. It’s just a friendship. I have a lot of friends. I call a lot of people.

Why does everybody make such a big deal I don’t understand it.
Elite Youth Jeremy Lin Jersey
Elite Youth Patrick Chung Jersey Sometimes in the draft process, one interview, one note or one play can be an incitement of a player’s NFL excitement or pessimism. In speaking with scouts and reflecting on film, Peterman had that moment on Day 2.

On the second throw of team drills, Peterman took a five-step drop, looked off the left side safety and placed a pass over the linebacker before the safety could break on Florida International tight end Jonnu Smith a perfectly thrown 10-yard out pattern. His quick drop, timing of his decision, velocity control to work between defensive gaps and ball placement along the sideline wowed scouts in the moment and on reflection, and the attributes likely will continue to wow for months to come.

Colts punter Pat McAfee on firing of GM Ryan Grigson: ‘Thank God’

The news of the Colts firing GM Ryan Grigson on Saturday was met with a sigh of relief among fans and even one Colts player.

I would say, a long answer, but I would say, I understand that and I’m fully aware that myself, the team I put around me, we’re going to have to earn the respect and the only way you do that is through your actions and for us that’s showing it on the field. We’ve got a big task in front of us, but I can’t tell you how excited I am to attack it.

Tamba Hali Womens Jersey I’m not sure as an analyst if you followed a lot of the 49ers this season or in the past, but what do you want to tackle first As GM you have the draft and everything. What area do you want to focus on first to get this team back to where it used to be

That’s a great question. I think the answer is there’s so much to attack. There’s a lot going on and are we behind Sure we are because I just got here. I just accepted this job last night. Can we overcome that Absolutely we can and we’re very fortunate that there’s really good people, some talented people that are from the staffs that preceded this one and they are doing a lot of really great work and I can’t wait to talk to those folks to tell them how much we appreciate that.

‘I kind of raise his football IQ,’ said Freeney, who has perfected the spin move like no other defender. ‘He doesn’t have the experience so I try to catch him up as far as things that you have to look out for protection-wise and formation-wise.

‘When I was his age (24), I was a fast, agile guy who had strength. I remind him when to trigger certain moves. ‘You’re doing it too early. Do it a little bit later,’ things of that nature because of the fact I was him. I was that body type so I can best explain to him better than someone else.’

Patriots’ Tom Brady dodges question about Donald Trump

Authentic Cyrus Jones Jersey
Authentic Russell Martin Jersey Tom Brady once again decided to avoid questions regarding now-President Donald Trump.

The Patriots quarterback was asked Friday about an alleged phone call between him and Trump the daybefore his inauguration. During a dinner Thursday night, Trump said to Patriots owner Robert Kraft,’Your friend Tom [Brady] just called. He feels good. He called to congratulate us. He feels good.’

Brady has distanced himself from Trump in media interviews ever since the pair’s relationship was made public. The first incident occurred in 2015when Brady was spotted with a Make America Great Again hat.

After facing criticism for more than a year, Brady told the media in November, I’m not talking politics anymore, guys.

New England’s first drive of the second half was complicated by an odd ruling after a play in which Tom Brady clearly fumbled, but there was no clear recovery. The Patriots kept the ball and a few plays later sent on Stephen Gostkowski for his 47-yarder. 20-9, Patriots.

That escalated quickly. The Patriots scored 13 points in a seven-minute span (in real time) thanks to the Steelers’ fumble, and they opened a 24-point lead before the end of the third quarter. Tom Brady found a wide-open Julian Edelman in the middle of the end zone on the third play of the drive. Stephen Gostkowski missed the PAT wide right. 33-9, Patriots.

Reassigned Cardinals snap losing streak with win over Phillies

The? Cardinals entered Friday’s game against the Phillies losers of? 17 of their last 22 games, a newly reassigned coaching staff, and without? veteran infielder Jhonny Peralta. Aledmys Diaz went deep and Michael Wacha pitched a quality start as Cardinals? (27-32) topped the Phillies, 3-2 at Busch Stadium.Wacha, who had not been able to finish five innings in each of his last three starts, struck out two in his third win of the season.

That day he tossed eight innings, allowed four hits, one run and struck out five for the Royals in a 4-1 win over the White Sox.

Saturday’s outing was the sixth no-no in Marlins’ history and just the second in Marlins Park. The only other pitcher to toss a no-hitter for the Marlins at their current park was Henderson Alvarez in the final week of the 2013 regular season.

The Marlins actually won that game on a walk-off hit 1-0.

Volquez completed Saturday’s no-no even after getting tangled with Rey Fuentes at first base following the game’s first at-bat.

The Marlins are now 23-31 on the season, a half-game behind the Mets for second place in the National League East. They are 11 1/2 games behind the Nationals, who have a strangle hold on the top spot in the division.

While Volquez had never thrown a no-hitter before, he did toss a one-hitter July 19, 2012, in a victory for the Padres over the Astros.

Mel Blount Limited Jersey Volquez dedicated Saturday’s game to former Royals teammate Yordano Ventura, who died in a January car accident and would have turned 26 on Saturday.

Johnny Manziel not giving up on NFL return: ‘I want to play football’

Johnny Manziel has had a lot on his plate in recent months, even without setting foot on a football field.

But as he left a Texas courthouse Tuesday morning following an amicable check-in with the judge overseeing his misdemeanor assault case, the Heisman winner made it clear he hasn’t given up on reclaiming his career.

The quarterback’s only words to a gaggle of reporters trailing him out of the courtroom were “I want to play football,” and all indications are Tuesday’s proceedings kept him on track to at least have a chance to get back on the field.

Judge Roberto Ca?as summoned Manziel for a progress report on the conditions of a deal that would see assault charges against the 24-year-old dismissed. For that to happen, Manziel has to complete substance-abuse rehab and anger management counseling, among other stipulations.

“I think last year the whole Fitz situation took a lot out of me,” Marshall said, via the New York Post. “I think that was something that made me realize I need to focus on myself and football. I need to do my job. My job is to be a wide receiver. Going into this offseason, that’s all I want to do is be a football player. I’m getting out of the front office department.”

New York is currently trying to decide whether it is financially wise to keep Marshall. He’s reaching the point in his career where his skills have likely started to diminish; however, he’s still a red-zone threat.

The Jets will have to decide if Marshall is worth the money and if they can provide a quarterback who can make proper use of his remaining talents. avalanche-014_c6be2c35639e681e-180x180
